WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN ARTIST TODAY?

Behind every finished artwork, there is a story people do not always see.

The first moment you felt connected to creativity.

The confidence it takes to share your work.

The pressure to be visible.

The reality of money, social media, support, rejection, and trying to keep creating anyway.

At ARRIVAL Gallery, we want to understand more than the artwork on the wall.

We want to understand the artist behind it.

That is why we are starting a research project built from artists’ real stories, memories, and experiences.

This is not just a survey.

It is a way of listening.

A Research Project Built From Artists’ Real Stories

Artists are often asked to show their work.

But they are not always asked what it feels like to build a creative life.

This first part of the research asks artists to reflect on what it means to be an artist today.

Not only the beautiful parts.

But also the difficult parts.

The uncertainty.

The motivation.

The confidence.

The moments of doubt.

The questions look at creativity, visibility, money, social media, support, and the real experience of trying to grow as an artist in today’s world.

We want to hear honest answers from artists at different stages of their journey.

Emerging artists.

Independent artists.

Artists who are just beginning.

Artists who are rebuilding.

Artists who are trying to be seen.

Artists who are still finding the courage to continue.

All of these voices matter.

Why We Are Asking

At ARRIVAL Gallery, we work with artists from different countries, backgrounds, and creative paths.

And one thing is clear.

Every artist carries more than the final work they present.

There are questions behind the work.

Can I keep doing this?

Will people understand it?

How do I get my work seen?

How do I talk about what I create?

How do I continue when things feel uncertain?

This research is our way of paying attention to those questions.

We want to build a more honest picture of what artists are living, feeling, and building today.

Not from assumptions.

Not from distance.

But from artists themselves.

Beyond The Finished Artwork

A finished artwork can say a lot.

But it does not always show the full experience behind it.

It does not always show the time, the pressure, the personal choices, or the emotional work that came before.

Being an artist today is not only about creating.

It is also about learning how to be visible.

How to share your work.

How to believe in your practice.

How to deal with rejection.

How to find support.

How to keep going when the path is not always clear.

This research gives artists a space to speak about those experiences in their own words.

Your Voice Helps Shape The Conversation

Every answer helps us understand artists more deeply.

Your experience can help show what artists need more of.

More support.

More visibility.

More understanding.

More space to be heard as people, not only as creators.

This research is not about perfect answers.

It is about honest ones.

Whether your experience has been easy, difficult, confusing, exciting, or still unfolding, it belongs in the conversation.

The survey takes around 7–10 minutes to complete.

If you are an artist, we invite you to take part in the first chapter of this research and share your experience with us.

Your voice matters.

Your story matters.

And it can help us understand what it really means to be an artist today.
