At Arrival Gallery, we spend a lot of time thinking about how people encounter art. A work changes when you step closer, see it beside another piece or talk about it with someone else. That attention does not have to end when you leave the gallery. The rooms we return to each day can also invite us to notice colour, shape, texture and the things that matter to us.
This is the idea behind The Calmos: a curated place for thoughtful art books and joyful objects for home and studio. A room need not look like an exhibition. It can simply hold a few things that make you look twice, alongside everything it needs to do.
Begin with what you already love
Look around before adding anything. A painting from a local artist, a book you return to, a handmade bowl or a photograph from a memorable day may already give your room its character. Give one of those things some breathing room. Move it into better light, clear the shelf around it or bring it closer to the place where you sit.
Then consider whether one useful object could continue the conversation. The point is to build a relationship between your belongings, rather than fill every surface. A book on painting can introduce a colour; a lamp can repeat a shape; a vase can bring a new material into view.
